Hello All,

I hope that you are all safe and healthy. I wanted to reach out and introduce myself. I work for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and I am so excited to announce that we have partnered with the Sandusky Sailing Club and the Sandusky Islands Race to bring you a great end of summer 2020 event!

For those who haven’t seen dates for the Sandusky Islands Leukemia Cup, we have decided to postpone our event and the new dates will be Friday, August 28th & Saturday, August 29th. The weekend will feature a welcome party on Friday night, Saturday races that will end back at SSC and a Saturday night Rock the Dock party. We hope we can host this wonderful event, but know, that we are also looking into what options may be to keep everyone safe!

The main reason for my email today is to invite you to join a “Virtual Kickoff” on Wednesday, May 20th from 7pm – 8pm. Register Here

This kickoff will feature speakers from all around, including a presentation on “How COVID is affecting your sport”. We hope you can join us to hear more about the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and why the wonderful group at Sandusky partnered with us!

Even in this uncharted territory, there is one thing we do know – we know that day in and day outnearly 5,000 people are diagnosed with cancer, and the COVID-19 crisis does nothing to change that fact.  In addition to a grueling battle against cancer, patients are now faced with the threat of a virus that they’ll be all the more vulnerable to.  So now, more than ever, our patients need us. LLS has launched a COVID-19 Patient Financial Aid Program and since April 1st we have been able to provide $3,558,750 to 14,395 patients! 431 of these patients are located in Northern Ohio and have received $107,750. Please pass this information along to anyone that you know that could benefit from these resources.

We hope you can join us for the virtual kickoff next Wednesday; we are moving forward in hopes that all is well! The sun is shining and I’m optimistic that there is a light at the end of the tunnel; sailing season is almost here!!

With gratitude and admiration,

Caitlin MacBride

Note:  All LLS offices nationwide, including our Northern Ohio Chapter office, are closed until further notice.  Donations will need to be mailed to our office rather than dropped off and all in-person meetings will become virtual.  As the coronavirus cases continue to grow, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is taking these actions to protect our blood cancer patients, volunteers, donors and staff in our communities across the country.  For our blood cancer patients, many who are immunocompromised during this time, please view this compiled list of online and virtual support.
